Letter to the Editor: What's the deal?

We have been staunch recyclers for many years, taking it to the nearest specified place. Now, we pay extra on our utility bill to have the city pick up our recycle items on the same day as our trash. Our neighborhood at 75th Street and Atlanta Avenue has 24 homeowners in a small gated community. And yet, for the past four weeks, we all faithfully put out our recycle carts, exactly the required three feet from the trash cart, and guess what?
The trash truck does a wonderful job every week, on Thursday. However, the recycle "truck" has never picked up on Thursday. For two of the weeks, it did not pick up recycled items until the following Saturday (after several phone calls from our neighborhood). Yet another week, there was no recycle pick up at all. On a recent week again no recycle pickup on the specified Thursday, or on Friday, or Saturday.
Many of us in this community have phoned every city office we can get to answer the phone, several times, and we have emailed the city twice, on the required contact form, with no reply at all. The recycle truck always picks up the recycled items one block east of us on Birmingham Avenue and other nearby neighborhoods, but it skips over us. Why? Our utility bills get charged the same amount as the other streets and near neighbors, but we get no service from the recycle truck.
Hey, what's the deal?
