CLAREMORE – The city has hired a Rhode Island man as its new city manager, municipal spokeswoman Cassie Woods said Friday.

Jim Thomas of West Warwick, R.I., will replace Daryl Golbek, who announced in June that he was resigning but would continue his longtime duties as public works director.

Thomas will assume his new post Nov. 26, Woods said.

Thomas has governmental administrative experience in six states, last serving as town administrator in Kingston, Mass., a town of about 12,500. He has held similar jobs in Rhode Island, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois and Utah.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and administration from Weber State in Utah and a master’s degree in public administration from Brigham Young University.
