Following the season opening loss to Iowa State, the Golden Hurricane offensive line and quarterback decided to forgo shaving as long as they kept winning. After seven straight victories their beards were looking full.

But after Saturday's loss to Arkansas it was time to shave and start over.

"I think with every stroke there was a tear that fell down," said TU quarterback Cody Green. "It's something that helps remind us (when) you look in the mirror, that we've gone seven straight. That's nice. Having to cut it off kind of hurts, but after a while you're like 'Well, it's time to start a new one.'"

The players decided on the bus ride home that they would either shave their beards all the way off or trim them dramatically.

"What was the full Santa Claus beard that Gabe (Moyer) had is real thin now, him and Brian DeShane," Green said. "Everyone else is basically bare. Come bowl game hopefully we'll be looking nice."

Returning the favor: Last year Houston came into H.A. Chapman Stadium and defeated the Hurricane 48-16.

"We've got a little chip on our shoulder saying 'Hey, you all came into our house last year and beat us. It's time to return the favor,'" Green said. "Our guys are going to get ready for it. Just because we know that these are the games we have to win. We have to win these last three games to really establish ourselves as the top dog in this conference."

Toy drive: TU will be collecting donations for Toys for Tots in conjunction with Military Appreciation Day for the final home game Nov. 17 against Central Florida.

The U.S. Marine Corps will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for its Toys for Tots program and fans who bring in a new, unwrapped toy valued at $15 will receive free admission to the game.

Fans can also drop off toys early at the Reynolds Center Athletic Ticket Office and receive a free ticket for the game.

Additionally, all members of the military can purchase up to four tickets at a rate of $5 each with a valid military I.D. card.

The ticket office is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and on game day.
