Claremore Sequoyah used a big fourth quarter to beat fourth-ranked and previously unbeaten Victory Christian 31-14 in the first round of Class 3A playoffs Friday night at Victory Stadium.
The Eagles (6-5) will host Roland in the second round next Friday.
"That's great to get a home playoff game," said Claremore Sequoyah coach Jody Iams. "That doesn't happen unless the kids believe."
The Eagles took a 17-14 lead when Daniel Moniz threw a 20-yard touchdown pass to McKaine Foster 42 seconds into the final quarter.
"That play all started with good blocking up front," Foster said. "Everyone is doing their job."
Hunter Webster extended the advantage on a 38-yard scoring run with 4:00 left. Moniz made it 31-14 after a 31-yard touchdown run 57 seconds later.
"I am so proud of the way the kids continue to fight," Iams said. "You can see them coming together and it's an awesome feeling."
Claremore Sequoyah drew first blood with 5:09 left in the first period thanks to a little bit of luck. Moniz fumbled into the end zone but Will Shea alertly fell on the ball.
Victory Christian (10-1) tied it at 7 late in the first quarter after a 7-yard touchdown run from Cole Taylor. Griffin Beasley helped set up the score with a fumble recovery at the Eagle 25.
The Eagles went ahead 10-7 when Chance Schultz made a 30-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining in the first half.
Victory Christian took its only lead when Jalen Wood scored on a 24-yard touchdown run with 9:21 to play in the third quarter.
