Soft touch: Comfortable floor plan, elegant details highlight residence in White Hawk Estates

One of Oklahoma’s fastest growing communities, Bixby offers an appealing quality of life. One of its best features is an excellent school system. In addition, it boasts a small-town feeling with many amenities, including booming commercial development and quality neighborhoods. Its easy access to Tulsa adds to its appeal.
Harry and Pam Lay built their home in White Hawk Estates in 2001. Located at 14401 S. 50th E. Ave., the attractive one-level residence is near the seventh hole of White Hawk Golf Club, providing a terrific view beyond their backyard.
The couple has enjoyed the comforts of Bixby as well as their quiet neighborhood. “At our recent homeowners meeting, the mayor, city manager and city treasurer came to update us on what’s going on in the community,” said Harry. “The mayor shared that, of all the towns in Oklahoma, Bixby has the lowest crime rate in the state. He also said this community has the lowest crime rate of all the neighborhoods in Bixby.”
The Lays knew just what they wanted in a home and had Brett Neil build it. Owner of GoldStar Development, Neil has built many homes in White Hawk Estates and White Hawk Villas.
One of the more interesting features of this week’s featured home is its unusual open floor plan. “We like the wide open space,” Harry said. “It looks like our great room, dining room and kitchen are really only one room. The 14-foot kitchen bar is great. We entertain a lot and have big families. At Christmas and Thanksgiving, we have 30 to 35 people here. We can all sit in these areas and still feel connected.”
High ceilings and an attractive hand-troweled olive finish on the walls in these three living/entertaining areas adds an air of sophistication that is complemented by ivory crown molding and trim work. A floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace is tucked in one corner of the great room. Hardwood and tile floors extend throughout the house with the exception of carpet in the master closet.
Across from the dining room off the entry is a den that is large enough to serve as both a study and game room. Built-ins are at the back of the room as well as space for a desk. The front of the den has plenty of room for a pool table.
The home has three bedrooms and two and one-half baths. The master suite is separated from the other bedrooms.
In addition to a spacious bedroom, the master suite has a bathroom large enough for a sitting area between high vanities.
The Lays spent $3,200 having the master closet customized to accommodate both their wardrobes with room to spare.
Another custom feature included in the home is a versatile storage room in the garage. “I’m an avid fisherman so I have a customized fishing tackle room,” Harry said. The shelves were custom-designed to accommodate an abundance of tackle boxes. In fact, the space would make a great hobby room for a number of interests or could be converted into a safe room.
The garage is deep enough to accommodate an 18-foot-long Ranger bass boat, and a circle drive adds to the convenience.
A delightful backyard includes a heated, self-cleaning lap pool with color lighting and two patio areas. Several maple trees shade the space.
Listed for $400,000, the home will be open 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday. For more information, contact John & Mary Lynn Kaiser, the Keller Williams Realtors representing the property, at 918-798-5552.
