1. Kansas State: One more victory
clinches at least a share of the
Big 12 Conference title. But the
Wildcats have bigger championship
plans right now.
2. Oklahoma: The Sooners’ game
at West Virginia was a preseason
prediction for one of the
Big 12’s best this season. The
Mountaineers’ four-game losing
streak has almost made it an
afterthought.
3. Texas: Exactly one month
ago today, the Longhorns were
humbled by Oklahoma in the
Cotton Bowl. Now, with one OU
slip-up, could UT find its way to
the BCS?
4. Oklahoma State: Three different
quarterbacks have led the Cowboys
to victories this season.
Winning is nice, but that’s not
the formula Mike Gundy likely
expected.
5. Texas Tech: Red Raiders finish
up away from Lubbock with road
contests at Oklahoma State and
Baylor. Win both and a nice bowl
game awaits.
6. TCU: Nothing has been easy
for the Horned Frogs this season,
especially at quarterback. It’s
led to a rude awakening in Big 12
football.
7. West Virginia: The Big 12
transition has been tough. The
Mountaineers have lost four
straight and the two games it
did win (Baylor, Texas) were by a
combined 10 points.
8. Iowa State: It’s been a rollercoaster
ride for the Cyclones in
2012. After starting the season
4-1, the team has dropped four
of its past five games. Iowa State
finishes at Kansas and hosts
West Virginia.
9. Baylor: How about this statistic
— the Bears haven’t given up
a field goal in the last seven
games. But Baylor has allowed
44 touchdowns during that
span.
10. Kansas: You have to feel for
Kansas a bit. The team stood
toe-to-toe with Oklahoma State,
couldn’t get a key fourth-down
stop against Texas and lost in
double OT at Texas Tech last
weekend. All were part of a nine-game
losing streak.
THIS WEEK’S TOP GAME
Oklahoma at West Virginia, 6 p.m. Saturday: West Virginia is a wounded football
team with four consecutive losses on its resumé. Defeating Oklahoma would help
salvage the Mountaineers’ first run through the Big 12 Conference. OU has played
well away from home this season, winning all four games by an average of 23.8
points.
THIS WEEK’S WORST GAME
Iowa State at Kansas, 6 p.m. Saturday: The Cyclones are looking for that elusive sixth victory this season and this is the better of its two opportunities. Iowa State closes out the season with a home game against West Virginia. Kansas has lost nine consecutive games. It’s been a long time since KU’s season-opening victory against
visiting South Dakota State.
