College basketball notebook: TU's Woodard named C-USA freshman of the week

Tulsa's James Woodard has been named the Conference USA basketball freshman of the week for scoring 28 points in the first game of his TU career.
In only 20 minutes of playing time against LSU-Shreveport on Sunday at the Reynolds Center, Woodard scored 28 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field. He connected on five 3-point shots and totaled five rebounds and four assists. The Golden Hurricane prevailed 110-54.
Woodard's point total was the greatest by a TU freshman in his first game since Shea Seals had 33 points against Houston Baptist in 1993. Seals now is a TU assistant coach.
The C-USA player of the week is UCF junior Isaiah Sykes, who had 26 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists during the Knights' first victory over South Florida since 1978.
ORU's Luper receives first Southland honor
Oral Roberts senior Kevi Luper was named Southland Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Luper scored 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked three shots in ORU's 64-53 victory over Tulsa on Nov. 9 in the Mayor's Cup game.
OSU's Martin earns Big 12 freshman award
Oklahoma State's Brittney Martin was named Big 12 Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week after scoring 15 points in the Cowgirls' 90-59 win over Cal Poly on Friday.
Texas' Nneka Enempkali was named Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
