Vernon Hodges, 89, formerly of Tulsa, passed away at the Norman VA Center on November 10, 2012. Vernon was born to Clyde and Ethel Hodges January 11,1923 in Denmark, AR. He served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII and was honorably discharged December 3, 1945. He retired in 1980 from his career as a union labor leader. He joyfully served as a deacon and greeter at Southwood Baptist Church in Tulsa. He was pre-deceased by his sweet wife of 62 years, Aliene, and two brothers, Raymond and Dean. Survivors include his son Michael Hodges and wife Sherie of Oklahoma City; his daughter Karen Goss and husband Kirk of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Jeff Goss of Austin, TX, Allison Hodges of Oklahoma City, Jamie Goss Martin of Chicago, IL, Brandon Hodges of Pensacola, FL, and Brian Hodges of Little Rock, AR; one brother, Kenneth Hodges of Heber Springs, AR; his sister, Oleta Free of Newport, AR and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. The Lord blessed Vernon with a long and full life. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all. A service will be held graveside at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 14 at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens, 6500 S. 129 East Avenue, Broken Arrow. This obituary was published in the Tulsa World on 11/13/2012.
