Letter writer Juan Miret ("Drop the 'I' word," Nov 4), using a forced, hyperbolic erudition, rants over the phrase "illegal immigrant," saying that "illegal" is demeaning.
He espouses "undocumented immigrant." His disdain for the description "illegal immigrant" is 180 degrees off. The undocumented folks to whom he refers are those in the U.S. against the law.
By definition, breaking the law is illegal. That word is objective and factual. To enter this sovereign nation contrary to law is trespassing. Therefore, to make the phrase "illegal immigrant" more precise, use "illegal trespasser."
