A Tulsa woman who was arrested in connection with a botched robbery turned shooting in a Sapulpa motel told police she orchestrated the event, a police report says.

Brittany Sue Carter, 18, who remains in the Tulsa Jail on complaints of attempted robbery with a weapon and conspiracy to commit a felony, informed investigators while in custody, "I set this up, I planned this," according to a police report.

Carter also admitted to police that in exchange for money she agreed to have sex with Jose Cruz last Friday at the Economy Inn at 5609 W. Skelly Drive because "she needed to pay her rent," the report alleges.

Carter said she asked Justin Marshall and LeeDell Kavon Jones to help her rob Cruz, 28, at the motel that night, according to the report.

Police reported that the three and Eric Courtaway, 21, drove to the motel, rented a room and planned how they would rob Cruz.

The report notes that "they all agreed on a code word so they would know when to come out and rob Cruz."

Cruz, who is licensed to carry a handgun, shot Marshall in the leg and Jones in the abdomen, leg and foot when they tried to ambush him, police said.

The two shooting victims were taken by Carter and Courtaway to the Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, where they underwent surgery, police said.

Marshall and Jones gave investigators conflicting accounts of how they were shot, police said.

They remained hospitalized Wednesday and had not been arrested.

Police have named Courtaway a person of interest in the robbery.

Cruz is not expected to be charged, police said.
