One of two men charged in the Good Friday shootings was arraigned Wednesday on an unrelated charge of assaulting a detention officer.

Prosecutors allege that Jacob Carl England, 20, elbowed the officer in his lower right side while being led to his Tulsa Jail cell from the facility's recreation yard Nov. 1.

He was charged Nov. 7 with assault and battery on a detention officer, court records show.

His next court appearance is a Dec. 12 preliminary hearing, Tulsa County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Susan Witt said.

England is accused of shouting obscenities as he elbowed the detention officer, who told police that he had been using a "very small amount of force" to escort England, according to a court affidavit.

The officer said he continued escorting England to his cell, where he propped the door open with his foot and pushed English inside with both of his hands, the document says.

The affidavit adds that England continued shouting and refused to hold up his hands to have his handcuffs removed until the officer threatened to cite him.

The officer had redness and slight swelling where he was struck, according to the document.

England is accused along with Alvin Lee Watts, 33, of shooting five black people - killing three - at four north Tulsa locations April 6.

The men were arrested together two days later and were both charged with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill, as well as five misdemeanor counts of malicious intimidation or harassment based on race.

Authorities said England, who is listed in court records as white but whom testimony at a preliminary hearing indicated is an American Indian, might have targeted black people in retaliation for his father's shooting death by a black man in 2010. England has denied disliking black people.

He and Watts are set to appear for a Nov. 26 district court arraignment, court records show.
