Charles Raymond O’Brien passed away peacefully on his son’s Catch 22 Ranch in Beggs, Oklahoma, on Monday, November 12, 2012. Charlie was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Charles Henry O’Brien and Martha Marie Grillot O’Brien on September 4, 1935, the 7th of 8 children. He was a lifelong resident of Tulsa and attended St. Francis Elementary School, Marquette High School, and the University of Tulsa, where he played football. He was a partner in the family business of O’Brien Meat Company. Charlie married Ann Marie Cody Kelley on December 28th, 1957, at St. Pius X Church, in Tulsa. Charlie was pre-deceased by both of his parents, as well as by his brother Martin and sisters Mary and Frances. He is survived by his wife Ann, his sisters Rita Grisez (Bill) and Lois Joyce of Tulsa and Eileen Decker of New Jersey, and his brother Daniel O’Brien of Tulsa. He is also sur- vived by his nine children: Susan Comtois (Steve), Thomas Kelley (Theresa), Irene Taylor (Gary), and Charles O’Brien (Traci), all of Tulsa, Sheila Vancuren (Mark) and John O’Brien (Carmen) of Owasso, Carolyn Sonberg (Erik) of Hilton Head, SC, Shawn Wedge (Doug) of Birmingham, AL, and Timothy O’Brien (Andrea) of Allen, TX, as well as 41 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The viewing will be at Moore’s Eastlawn, 1908 S. Memorial Dr., Tulsa. The Rosary will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, November 15th, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1727 S. 75th E. Ave., Tulsa, and the Funeral Mass will also be held at St. Pius at 2 PM on Friday, November 16th. Charlie was much-loved as a husband, father, grandfather, sibling and friend. He has enriched our lives beyond measure, and we will all continue to hold him close in our hearts.
