BARTLESVILLE - A couple was jailed Friday on charges stemming from a child abuse case in which a 3-year-old boy was injured.
Christopher Ray Charles Ellis, 23, is charged with felony child abuse in the case, while Adrienne Noel Marcus, 21, is charged with child endangerment.
Ellis is being held with a $50,000 bail and is ordered to have no contact with the victim, while Marcus is being held with a $25,000 bail.
School staff members reported the suspected abuse after noting that the boy had a black eye and bruises on his face, ears and head, a court affidavit stated. The boy told the school he got the bruises from his "daddy," which is the name he calls Ellis, the affidavit stated.
The abuse is alleged to have occurred between Nov. 4 and 6, according to court records.
Police interviewed Marcus, the child's mother, at their home in the 100 block of Northwest Mockingbird. Officers took pictures of the bruises on the child's face, eyes, ears and head.
Police and a child welfare specialist from the Department of Human Services created a safety plan for Marcus designed to keep her and the children from harm, the affidavit stated.
According to the plan, she was not to allow Ellis to care for the victim and an 8-month-old baby who lived in the home.
In a protective order filed by Marcus against Ellis, she maintains the toddler had a black eye from "hitting a nightstand" and states she is filling out the court paperwork because DHS thought her boyfriend might harm her children.
On Nov. 11, the toddler's grandmother called authorities to examine severe bruising on the boy's buttocks. The victim told police the new bruises were caused by "daddy."
When police went to Marcus' home to interview her about the new bruises, officers discovered Ellis hiding under a bed, the affidavit stated.
