Fourth-ranked Metro Christian defeated Keys 42-14 in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night at Metro Stadium.

The Patriots (10-2) will play at top-ranked and undefeated Seminole in the quarterfinals next Friday. The Cougars finished 7-4.

"The kids played great tonight," said Metro Christian coach Jared McCoy. "I couldn't be more pleased. Seminole is good year-in and year-out. We hope to go down and play another good game and continue to execute."

Quarterback Matt Woolslayer led the charge for the Patriots with both his feet and his arm.

He rushed for 105 yards on 18 carries and scored three times, while completing 18-of-23 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Woolslayer, who was intercepted once, completed his first 12 attempts.

"I am really not asked to do a lot in our system," said Woolslayer. "I depend on my teammates to make a lot of plays. We knew Keys was a great opponent. We got some turnovers and capitalized."

Metro Christian got its first score at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter on a 2-yard touchdown run from Woolslayer.

Just 21 seconds later Woolslayer connected with Jake Koenig on a 23-yard touchdown stike. That score came one play after Harrison Briggs recovered a fumble.

The advantage grew to 21-0 after Woolslayer scored on a 4-yard run with 7:14 remaining in the second period.

Woolslayer then found the end zone again, this time from 3 yards out, to stretch the lead to 28-0 with 2:01 to play in the first half.

Keys had a chance on its ensuing drive, but that march ended when Zach Webb recovered a fumble at the Patriot 33 yard line with 1:18 left in the first half.

The Patriots made it 35-0 on their first possession of the second half, courtesy of a 48-yard touchdown pass from Woolslayer to Danny Burke at the 8:56 mark of the third quarter.

Burke set up that score himself after he recovered a fumble at the Keys 32 yard line 33 seconds earlier.

The Cougars finally broke through when quarterback Trevor Eubanks scored on 53-yard keeper with 7:30 left in the third period. He finished with 100 yards on 14 carries and two touchdowns.

Woolslayer and Burke hooked up again on a 21-yard scoring connection with 7:50 to play for the final Patriot points of the night.

"This is a great group of seniors," said McCoy. "They are the first class to win four district championships here."
