C-USA championship tickets on sale Sunday; TU likely to host

With Saturday’s 23-21 triumph over the University of Central Florida, the University of Tulsa clinched its first West Division title since 2008 and an appearance in the Dec. 1 Conference championship game.

While it isn’t yet a 100 percent certainty that Tulsa will host the championship, it is an extremely strong likelihood. TU would lose the host status only if it loses at SMU next week while UCF loses to UAB and East Carolina beats Marshall.

In that scenario, West champion TU and East champion East Carolina each would end the regular season with a 7-1 record in conference play. East Carolina is not on TU’s regular-season schedule, so there is no head-to-head tiebreaker. The championship game would be awarded to the team with the higher BCS standing.

Entering this weekend, the Golden Hurricane was 39th in the BCS standings. East Carolina was 73rd. It would appear to be an impossibility for East Carolina to make up that much ground with a victory over Marshall (98th in the BCS).

So, while it isn’t absolutely official that TU will host the championship game – probably a rematch with UCF – it seems so inevitable that TU already has announced ticket information.

Tickets will go on sale Sunday noon online at tulsaworld.com/tusports and will remain on sale, 24-7, through Nov. 30. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 918-631-4688 or at the Reynolds Center Ticket Office beginning 8:30 a.m. Monday. TU ticket office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
