Al R.D. Sowards and Ruth
Jorgensen Sowards of Broken
Arrow celebrated their 55th
wedding anniversary in
November, with a trip to France
and Spain and a Mediterranean
cruise.
The couple met on a blind
date while they were both
attending the University of
Oklahoma. They married Nov.
23, 1957, at Pennsylvania
Avenue Christian Church in
Oklahoma City. They have
three children: Elizabeth Price
and husband Vance of Vienna,
Va.; David Sowards and wife
Debra Hamilton Sowards of
Tulsa; and Jennifer Jones and
husband Douglas of Plano,
Texas. They have six
grandchildren: Madeleine Price
and Alexandrea Price, both of
Vienna, Va.; Jackson Hamilton
Sowards and Lukas Robert
Sowards of Tulsa; and Kyle
Jones and Natalie Ruth Jones,
both of Plano.
Al Sowards was vicepresident
of Fenix and Scisson,
Inc., and since 1989 has been a
geological engineering
consultant. Ruth Sowards is the
managing trustee of Sisk
Charitable Trust.
