Afghanistan: As of Sunday, at least 2,025 members of the U.S. military had died as a result of the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, according to an Associated Press count.
The latest deaths reported by the military:
- Two soldiers died Friday in Paktika province, Afghanistan, from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device and small-arms fire. They were Sgt. Channing B. Hicks, 24, of Greer, S.C., and Spc. Joseph A. Richardson, 23, of Booneville, Ark. Both were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.
