Rogene "Ronnie" Ashford completed her Route 66 Marathon walk Sunday night.
Ashford finished the 26.2 miles in 11 hours, 46 minutes and six seconds. Her goal was to come in under 12 hours.
Route 66 Marathon executive director had a surprise waiting for Ashford's completion of her first marathon. A police escort was given to her for the last mile and the finish line timer was turned on to show her time. Music and police sirens greeted her in the last step across the finish line at Veteran's Park.
"Oh, my God, I did it," Ashford said to her friends and family gathered to see the finish.
Lieberman presented Ashford the official finish medal and praised her determination to finish.
