Tulsa-based Magellan Midstream Partners LP and Los Angeles-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. said Monday they will begin construction soon on a joint-venture pipeline to bring crude oil from the Permian Basin to the Gulf Coast refineries around Houston.

The BridgeTex Pipeline will run approximately 400 miles from Colorado City, Texas to Magellan’s terminal in East Houston. The joint venture also will include 1.2 million barrels of crude oil storage at Colorado City and another 1.4 million barrels capacity at East Houston.

The two companies hope to begin service on the BridgeTex by mid-2014. A joint venture team will oversee the construction project, while Magellan will serve as construction manager and operator of the pipeline.
