ENID — Officials have picked a site for a planned canola-processing plant that's coming to Enid.

Brent Kisling of the Enid Regional Development Alliance said the new Northstar Agri Industries plant will be built east of the city near Pleasant Vale Elementary School.

The Enid News & Eagle reports that the plant is expected to create 55 full-time jobs.

The company hopes the plant will be complete before canola harvest in June 2015. Once it's up and running, the plant will be able to process 2,200 tons of canola per day.

Kisling said canola production will help the area's wheat crop because rotating canola and wheat can eventually make the soil more fertile.

Northstar is a subsidiary of California-based PICO Holdings Inc. It has a canola plant near Hallock, Minn.
