New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and President Obama displayed the responsibility of a well-financed federal government. When a state is ravaged by disaster it is the responsibility of the larger family of states, the federal government, to be prepared to provide the framework and the finances to help people back on their feet.
Families do that. These two men should be applauded for their courage to set aside their particular political ideologies and embrace the need to just work to fix the problem at hand.
Our wonderful nation is hungry for our politicians, with reasonably good ideas on both sides, to work together to fix the problem, whatever that is. We as a nation fail to see our role as a single state in the family of nations of the world to get our own problems fixed so that we can be a model to the rest of the family.
We are rapidly learning that the planet is a small place and we owe each other the duty of being responsible family members. We must stop letting our feelings control our attitude and behavior and choose noble attitudes and behaviors and painfully push forward together to fix our problems: Hurricane Sandy, the fiscal cliff, etc.
