Tulsa to host NCAA soccer tournament match Sunday

The 11th-seeded Tulsa men's soccer team will host San Diego in the Sweet Sixteen at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium, it was announced Monday.

On Sunday, Patrick Wallen scored two goals as San Diego (12-8) defeated sixth-seeded UCLA 5-2, while the Hurricane (14-5-1) defeated South Florida 1-0 in overtime. Union High School graduate Cristian Mata, the Conference USA freshman of the year, scored the game's only goal.

This is the eighth year TU has made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. TU's previous NCAA appearances were in 1991, 2003, '04, '07, '08, '09, and '10. Tulsa has an 8-7-1 mark in tournament play.

TU's best finish was Elite Eight appearances in 2004 and 2009.
