University of Tulsa senior linebacker DeAundre Brown and wide receiver Keyarris Garrett were honored as Conference USA players of the week.
For the third time in his career and the second time this season, Brown is the defensive player of the week. During TU's 23-21 triumph over UCF, he totaled nine tackles, one sack and three pass break-ups. Brown is 16th nationally in total tackles (112), 15th in tackles for loss (16 1/2) and 21st in sacks (nine).
Brown and the Hurricane defense limited UCF to 66 rushing yards (123 below its average per game) and 235 total yards (182 below its average).
For having scored all three of Tulsa's touchdowns against UCF, Garrett gets the offensive player of the week distinction. Cody Green and Garrett connected on scoring plays of 70, 20 and 13 yards. A 6-foot-4, 205-pound sophomore, Garrett finished with seven receptions for 130 yards.
The C-USA special-teams player of the week is Rice kicker Chris Boswell, who tied an NCAA record by hitting on three field goals of at least 50 yards.
Championship info: While it won't become official until this weekend - after the Conference USA regular season has ended - it is almost a certainty that West Division champion TU will host the Dec. 1 league title game at H.A. Chapman Stadium. The strong likelihood is that UCF returns to Tulsa for a rematch.
The championship game is set for an 11 a.m. start and will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2. Tickets, ranging in price from $50 to $15, are available at tulsahurricane.com.
In advance of the regular-season finale at SMU, TU is 7-0 in conference play. In the East, UCF and East Carolina both are 6-1. If TU wins at SMU, the Hurricane secures the championship host role, regardless of what occurs in the East.
