Henry Neal Cheever bom July 11, 1917, to Earl and Esther Cheever in Amarillo, Texas, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012, in Tulsa, OK. He served in WWII in the U. S. Army and was honorably discharged with an eye injury in 1945. Retired from Sun Oil Co. in 1981. He was a pipefitter at the refinery in West Tulsa for 42 years (all without a Loss Time Accident). His nickname was “Hammering Hank” because of his determination to make it fit even if he had to pound the part into place. After retirement he and his wife loved to travel- -both by car and bus tours. He had many hobbies, including gardening and growing inside plants. He has been a member of First Baptist Church of Tulsa since 1946. Survivors Include: daughters-Margaret A. Stanfill and husband, Delmar, of Broken Arrow, Martha L. Firestone and husband, Larry, of Burnet, TX and a son, Neal M. Cheever and wife, Allynne, of Sand Springs. One son-in-law, Andrew S. Mathis of Gardner, KS and a sister, Lois Fletcher, of Reedley, CA; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by a loving wife of 59 years, F. Belle Cheever; daughter, Barbara L. Mathis; granddaughter, Teri L. (Mathis) Zenner. Graveside services will be held at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 10.00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., at University Village Retirement Center, 8555 So. Lewis in Tulsa, where he resided for ten years. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to their favorite charity in his memory. He will always be remembered for his love for his family, his God and his sense of humor. He truly was a “man after God’s own heart”.
