Need something to
do with the family
over the long holiday
weekend? Here are a few options.
Aquarium
To keep the kids entertained
this weekend, consider
a visit to the Oklahoma
Aquarium, 300 Aquarium
Drive in Jenks. While there,
be sure to check out the new
“Extreme Amazon” exhibit,
which was dedicated last
week. The exhibit features
native fish and iguanas from
the Amazon River, and has
acrylic pop-up bubbles and
tunnels built into the tank
that help create an immersed
experience.
Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
every day, with extended
hours on Tuesdays until 9
p.m. Tickets are $13.95 for
adults, $11.95 for seniors and
military, $9.95 for children
ages 3-12 and free for children
2 and younger.
For more, call 918-296-
3474 or visit tulsaworld.com/aquarium.
Dancing at the depot
Burn off that heavy
Thanksgiving meal at the
holiday installment of Dancing
at the Depot, put on
by Pam Van Dyke Crosby,
Rebecca Ungerman and
Cindy Cain of Sweet & Hot
Productions. The “Turkey
Trot Swing Dance” will
give you the opportunity to
swing, cha-cha, tango, salsa
and more.
The event is at the Oklahoma
Jazz Hall of Fame,
111 E. First St., at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 23. Tickets are
$10, available by phone at
918-281-8609.
Books and astronomy
If returning to your regular
routine after a holiday slightly
depresses you, consider
breaking up your first day
back to work with “Books
Sandwiched In” at Central
Library, 400 Civic Center ,
from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. Monday,
Nov. 26. Author Georgia
Snoke will review Robert
Massie’s “Catherine the
Great: Portrait of a Woman.”
Or head to South Broken
Arrow Library, 3600 S.
Chestnut, and join the Broken
Arrow Sidewalk Astronomers
as they learn about
Jupiter’s star qualities and do
some sky gazing. Attendees
can bring their telescopes.
This event takes place from
6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov.
26.
Lights
And of course, the Thanksgiving
weekend is a great
time to check out the holiday
lights, which are currently
on in several places.
More than 2 million lights
are on display at Rhema
Bible Church, 1025 W. Kenosha
in Broken Arrow.
And more than 700,000
lights at Utica Square go on
at 6:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving,
featuring a performance of
the Founders Chorus. See the
cover story for more listings
of other lights displays and
holiday events.
