Correction: A Thursday Tulsa World story about Oklahoma State basketball player Jean-Paul Olukemi incorrectly referred to an NCAA rule regarding NCAA hardship waivers. One stipulation of a medical hardship waiver requires that a player participates in less than 30 percent of a team's games in a season. This story has been corrected.
STILLWATER - The emotional roller coaster continues for Jean-Paul Olukemi.
A senior swingman at Oklahoma State, Olukemi is done for the season after tearing his left ACL on Thursday against Akron in Puerto Rico, coach Travis Ford said Wednesday.
"I just hate it for him," Ford said. "Obviously he's been through a lot. ... He was excited for his senior year after going through everything he'd been through."
Because he participated in less than 30 percent of the season, Olukemi could qualify for a medical redshirt.
"We're going to definitely be putting in the paperwork and see if he can get another year," Ford said. "I haven't even talked to him about that yet. I don't know if that's something he would even want to do at this point."
The news comes three weeks after Olukemi's eligibility was restored for the full season as the result of an NCAA appeal. He had been ruled ineligible beyond the fall semester because he unknowingly started his eligibility clock by taking junior-college classes while in high school.
For the second straight year, Olukemi will miss Big 12 play while sidelined with a knee injury. He tore his right ACL last season on Dec. 31 in a nonconference finale against Virginia Tech.
Olukemi hasn't fully recovered from that injury but was inserted into the starting lineup after forward Michael Cobbins fractured a big toe in an exhibition. He is expected back in a week or two, Ford said.
The 20th-ranked Cowboys (4-0) also are without swingman Brian Williams, who is out for the season with a wrist injury.
Reserve forward Marek SouÄek is expected to miss a couple of weeks after injury a knee Friday against Tennessee, Ford said.
"We don't even have 10 guys at this point," Ford said. "That's hurting us as far as practice is concerned, during this great time that we could really have used and gotten better.
"But it's part of it. You deal with it and move on."
