Hilldale fires blanks in loss to Blanchard

BLANCHARD - The dream season of the Blanchard Lions continued Friday night as they knocked off Hilldale 42-0 in the Class 3A quarterfinals.
Blanchard (11-1) could do little wrong while the Hornets (11-2) did little right. The Lions had three interceptions and a fumble recovery to highlight a stingy defense to thwart Hilldale from the start.
Blanchard reaches the state semifinals for the first time since 1979. That was the year the Lions won their only state football title.
The Hornets got their initial first down with 8:53 left in the third quarter. Add to that, Hilldale managed only 109 yards total offense and spent most of the game in its own territory.
"Nothing went our way," said Hornet coach Chad Kirkhart. "We didn't block and couldn't run the football. Bottom line, they beat us."
Quarterback Brock Lamle was one of the many heroes for Blanchard. He hit 14-of-22 passes for for 226 yards and one TD.
Lamle also ran for a 13-yard score.
Two other Lions also passed for completions. Tanner Foster hit the halfback pass for a 16-yard TD.
Gage Wimer was a monster on defense for Blanchard, recording three sacks. Offensively, receiver Zach Hill caught five passes for 108 yards and one TD.
It was all Blanchard in the first half. The Lions used three interceptions to lead at halftime 21-0.
Hill caught a 36-yard TD pass from Lamle following an interception that Kyle Self picked off. The one-play drive made it 7-0 after Blake Barker's first of six extra-point kicks.
Another interception set up the second Lions' score. Jalan Daniels got the pick and returned it to Hilldale 15.
It took four plays for Braden Stringer to crash over from 3 yards out with 2:41 left in the first quarter.
The last score of the half came off the halfback pass by Foster to Self for a 16-yard tally with 7:13 left in the half.
