Beggs, football coach Bob Craig part ways

Beggs has dismissed Bob Craig as head football coach, athletic director Justin Norman confirmed Friday.
Craig just completed the fifth year of his second stint as head coach with a 38-22 record. He also held the helm in 2000-03 and amassed a nine-year mark of 70-36, with three district titles and three playoff quarterfinal finishes.
"I was very blessed to get to work there," Craig said. "I felt like we were highly successful. We made the playoffs eight of my nine years and made it at least to the second round six times."
Craig retired from full-time teaching two years ago and had worked the last two seasons on a temporary contract, Norman confirmed.
"We definitely appreciate all the hard work that (Craig) put into it, and the great success we had the last five years," Norman said.
The district has decided to go another direction in its coaching assignment, Norman said.
Craig, 57, said he's looking to coach again.
"That's what I do," he said. "I've been blessed to have great relationships with people everywhere I've coached, and that's why I can't wait to go to my next position."
A Tahlequah native and Owasso resident, Craig received his college degree from Northeastern State University.
He began his coaching career as a Cleveland High assistant (1977-79) and spent the next 20 seasons on the Coweta staff of former Tigers head coach Ron McHenry.
Craig also helmed Collinsville's program for four seasons (2004-07) and is 86-60 in 13 years as a head coach.
