I was pleased to see the recent Readers Forum article on the Affordable Health Care Act by Tulsa physician Dr. Michael Maxwell. Finally an opinion from someone who is very likely more informed on the viability of the law's proposed changes as well as providing valuable insight without the usual political slant.
Maxwell's views come from not only his experience with our nation's former and current health-care laws, but also his knowledge of behind-the-scenes programs and alliances that will provide ever-changing improvement to the foundation established by the AHCA.
As the daughter and care-giver of aging parents, the past five years have given me an eye-opening experience into our flawed health-care system. Sitting for hours in ER waiting rooms (in reality - health-care waiting rooms for the uninsured) my siblings and I lived in fear of the phone calls requiring one of us to head to ER to see our folks through the barrage of red tape to get the care they needed.
The complexity of the new laws is daunting, and I admit I too was wondering what the truth of the new laws really was - with only the ramblings of the politicos who have only their self-serving agenda for power and election/re-election to consider. As citizens, we have the responsibility to search for truth from those most qualified to help us understand the pros and cons - especially of something so critical to our and our country's future. Kudos, Tulsa World and Dr. Maxwell.
