Oral Roberts falls to Belmont in Great Alaska Shootout

ANCHORAGE, Ala. -- Belmont went on a 15-2 run in the second half to rally from an eight-point deficit and knock off Oral Roberts 70-67 in the third-place game of the Great Alaska Shootout.
The Eagles, 3-3 on the season, lost two of the three games they played at the Shootout. ORU fell in the semifinals to Charlotte early Saturday morning.
The Eagles return home to face Oklahoma on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
ORU trailed by five early in the second half before putting on an 18-5 push to build a 56-48 lead with 11:19 to play. Jorden Kaufman had six of his eight points in the rally.
But Belmont got a three-point play from Kerron Johnson to take a 59-58 lead with 4:56 remaining. Johnson, who scored 20, hit another layup to push the margin to three, then Blake Jenkins made three consecutive layups as Belmont built a seven-point edge.
Jenkins led Belmont with 22 points. Jenkins, Johnson and forward Trevor Noack were a combined 22-of-27 from the floor, as Belmont shot 57.8 percent from the field. That made up for a 39-22 rebounding advantage by ORU, including a 19-3 edge on the offensive backboards.
Steven Roundtree led the Eagles with 13 points. Korey Billbury and Damen Bell-Holter each had 12.
