Nathan Elberge Turnbo died on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at age 85 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on June 29, 1927, in Amarillo, Texas to Yokley Elberge Turnbo and Janet Bernice Turnbo. After high school, he joined the US Navy and served at the Naval Air Station in the Philippine Islands. Nathan obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas Tech University. He was called back in the Navy during the Korean War and served on the aircraft carrier, the USS Essex. Nathan married Barbara Grissom in 1953 and they had three children, Jonathan, Fawn, and Angela. He worked for Kewanee Oil Company 34 years, Gulf Oil for 7 years and Chevron for 2 years. He married Bobbye Dean Rushing in March, 1983. Nathan deeply loved Bobbye for the remainder of his life. They were married 29 years. After being in the oil business 43 years, Nathan spent the remainder of his life investing in the Financial Markets. He said his goal in the stock market was to cover Bobbye’s expenses from shopping. Nathan liked to dance and at one time belonged to four dance clubs. He is survived by his wife, Bobbye and two daughters and sons-in-law, Fawn and Larry Lovecchio, Ignatio, CO; Angela and Robert Morris, Broken Arrow, OK; and one son, Jonathan Turnbo, Tulsa, OK; one grandson, Justin Morris, Broken Arrow, OK; one granddaughter, Ashley and Kellen Hanson, Oklahoma City, OK; and one great-granddaughter, Abbey Hanson, Oklahoma City, OK. Nathan and Bobbye joined the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church shortly after their marriage and have enjoyed the love and friends of the Trinity Class all these years; Especially these last few months during Nathan’s illness for their love, support, calls and cards. Nathan believed in physical fitness and until the last months of his life maintained a very high standard of diet and exercise. He belonged to Lighthouse Fitness Center and has some wonderful friends who kept up his spirits during his final days for which we are most grateful. The Mercy Hospice group have been most caring and comforting. The family wishes to express our appreciation. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 26, 2012 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 2717 W. Hefner Rd, Oklahoma City, OK.
