Downtown shoppers can pick up cupcakes, clothing, books and dog treats - all in just a few blocks - when Deco District Pop-Up Shopping opens Tuesday.

And on Wednesday nights during the event, Santa will be there.

Organizers are planning music and other festivities, said Kathleen Berrigan, a coordinator of the pop-up shops for the downtown Deco District Association.

The shops are located inside four buildings in the area of Fifth to Seventh streets and Boston Avenue to Main Street. The hours on Tuesday and Thursdays are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The event runs through Dec. 28.

Last year was the first time that pop-up shops were operating downtown, and some businesses found that the area had a lot to offer. Five shops that participated last year signed contracts to operate throughout the year on the first floor of the Philcade building.

Books are Fun, Alter Ego Cupcakes, Tulsa Jewelry Collective and The Dog Dish are some of the shops that will be selling products in the retail district.

The Decopolis, a gallery and gift shop that features the art of local artists in addition to retro toys and home-decor items, opens next week, as well. It is located in the parking building next to La Boca Loca on the southeast corner of Sixth Street and Boston Avenue, Berrigan said.

Organizers are still working on the entertainment for Winter Wednesdays to coincide with the pop-up shops, Berrigan said.

So far, they have scheduled Mark Gibson and dancing by Vintage Swing Movement on Wednesday, Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences Small Jazz Groups and dancing by Vintage Swing Movement on Dec. 12, and Steve Liddell for Dec. 19.

The entertainers will be there from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and Santa will be there, as well.

Berrigan said they are looking for carolers to entertain at the event, and those interested can contact her at kathleen@elotetulsa.com
