Tulsa police officers will be randomly monitoring intersections on South Memorial Drive for drivers running red lights this week.

The Mingo Valley Division’s traffic unit will begin targeted patrols at major intersections along Memorial and issuing citations on Monday, according to a Tulsa Police Department release.

Disobeying red lights is the leading cause of injury collisions at intersections, police said.

No warnings will be given and a traffic fine of $200 will be issued, the release states.

In 2011, Tulsa police reported a total of 242 wrecks at the 61st, 71st and 81st street intersections along Memorial Drive.
