GLENPOOL – Police arrested a man accused of slapping his 6-year-old son in the chest on Sunday.

Terrance Jay Van Huis II, 27, was arrested on complaints of child abuse and interfering with an emergency call, jail records show.

Van Huis’ fiancée called police after Van Huis’ reportedly told her he’d slapped the boy after the boy fought with his 4-year-old brother, according to Van Huis’ arrest report.

The woman took photos of “a large hand print that was red and had begun to bruise” before confronting Van Huis and attempting to call police, the arresting officer wrote.

Van Huis allegedly unplugged the phone and took his three children, who were only wearing their underwear, according to the report, to his uncle’s home in Mounds.

Creek County authorities found Van Huis at a residence in Mounds and Glenpool police responded to interview him before he was arrested around 6:30 p.m., the report shows.

Van Huis reportedly told the officer it was his natural reaction to slap the boy and said what he did was very stupid and that he overreacted.

He is being held at the Tulsa Jail in lieu of $50,500 bond.
