How important are the toys that you buy your kids for Christmas?

I am an 11-year-old girl and many of my toys just end up at the bottom of my toy box and never get played with. Recently, I have researched the toys at local stores and very few are made in America. Most are made in China.

At a time when our country needs so much help, why don't we all make a real effort to buy American-made products or at least support businesses in our local community?

Instead of buying a bunch of toys that were made overseas, how about taking your kids somewhere that they will remember? Make gift cards good for a day trip to an amusement park or a local museum. You can also buy gift cards to your kid's favorite local restaurant. Many consignment shops have big selections of clothes and toys for younger kids. For older kids, don't forget about online resale sites such as Craigslist.

Christmas is a great time to spend time with your kids and help your local community.
