OKLAHOMA CITY - Kansas football coach Charlie Weis recruited most of Notre Dame's veteran players. But Monday on the weekly Big 12 teleconference, Weis said he wants to stay low profile concerning the Irish playing for the national title and linebacker Manti Te'o being a Heisman candidate.
“I don't want to try to take accolades for their success,” Weis said. “It's really easy for a guy in my position to sit there and say, ‘They're all my kids that they're winning with' and be jealous and bitter and all that other stuff.
“Take Manti for example. I love Manti. Manti and I will be close the rest of our lives as will his family and I. But it's important for me to understand that it's their team, it's not my team. I have to worry about Kansas. But there are a lot of young men (at Notre Dame) that are having success that I'm very, very happy for.”
Weis posted a 35-27 record in five seasons at Notre Dame (2005-2009).
