JAY - A liquor store clerk has been charged with selling alcohol to a minor who later died in a traffic accident.

Stacey Leann Dixon, 46, of Afton was charged Tuesday in Delaware County District Court with furnishing alcohol to someone younger than 21. She allegedly sold vodka to Colton Kerns, 17, on April 19.

Dixon was released from jail after posting $5,000 bond, the Sheriff's office confirmed.

Kerns was killed about 2:20 p.m. April 20 in a single-vehicle crash, records show. He was ejected from his vehicle, which landed on top of him, records show. An autopsy report showed that Kerns' blood-alcohol level was 0.13. The legal limit for driving in Oklahoma is 0.08.

Earlier in the day, Kerns was at school in Fairland with other students decorating for the prom. He was in the school parking lot mixing vodka and soda pop and drinking it, an affidavit states.

Superintendent Mark Alexander had two students drive an intoxicated Kerns home about 12:30 p.m. Kerns then turned around and drove the two students back to school, the affidavit states.

Afterward, Kerns sent text messages to students containing a photo of himself wearing a prom suit with the message that "this was the last time that they were going to hear from him because he was going to outrun the police," the affidavit states.

The students tried to reach Kerns on his cellphone but were unable to do so, the affidavit states.

Kerns had bought the vodka at the Woodshed Liquor Store in Afton the night before, the affidavit states.

Dixon is seen on store surveillance video selling the alcohol to Kerns without checking for identification, records show.

The store's owner told authorities that he reviewed surveillance video recorded during a two-week period prior to the accident and that Kerns can be seen purchasing alcohol several times, according to the affidavit. His identification was never checked, records state.
