Veteran squad: Saturday's game was the last for 23 East Central seniors: Kendal Armstrong, Eric Bell, Daniel Bittick, Demeco Bowens, Antoine Brown, Demontre Burkhalter, Kimmie Carson, Brendan Ennis and Alejandro Garcia.

Also, Fabian Garcia, Jessy Garcia, William Goree, Noble Grant, Davonn Hilley, Michael Johnson, Latarious McGoy, Joshua Moreno, Ennis Robinson, Matt Simmons, Tre Thompson, Stanvon Taylor, Trent Williams and Deontre Youngblood.

Academic champions: Oklahoma City McGuinness, which lost in the semifinals to Midwest City Carl Albert, was honored before the championship game as 5A football's top academic team. Before the 4A title game earlier in the day, Oologah was recognized as the 4A champion.

Early touchdown: Tre'von Cherry's 1-yard touchdown early in the second quarter was East Central's first first-half touchdown in its three state championship game appearances and only the Cardinals' second overall in the finals.

Double numbers: East Central's Michael Johnson wore uniform No. 42 when he was at defensive end and a red No. 65 when he was inserted into the game on the offensive line.

Rare pass: Carl Albert tried only one pass in the first half, a dropped long bomb by Dillon Lohr that likely would have been a touchdown if it had been caught. The Titans had their first pass completion midway through the third quarter - a 7-yarder from Thompson to Garrett Asher on third-and-14.
