Loyce Wilkins

Loyce Wilkins was born in Red Fork, Oklahoma May 14, 1915. Her parents were R. M. and May Brown. She was married to Thomas Wilkins and they had two daughters, Alfrieda and Mary Jane. She died November 27, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. When it was discovered that Mary Jane, her daughter, was hearing impaired, Loyce immediately began working for the betterment of the deaf community. She and Tom were founding members of the Tulsa Speech and Hearing Society. Loyce worked tirelessly with local organizations and served on the Governor’s Commission for the Deaf for many years. She became proficient in sign language. She and Tom joined Boston Avenue United Methodist Church because of the Ephphatha Sunday School Class for the deaf. She was active in the United Methodist Women. Throughout her life she was aware and involved in what was happening in her neighborhood. She was a member of the Red Rose Garden Club, the Southwest Tulsa Historical Society, and was on the Board of Directors of Western Neighbors. She is survived by her daughters, Alfrieda Wilkins of Marina, California, her daughter and sonin- law Mary Jane and Harold Hamilton, and her sister Priscilla Kincaid of Tulsa. Also her nieces Debbie Fontana, Pat Roberts and Cheryl Glancy of Tulsa and Karen Adams of Dallas. Her nephews, Ron Brown of Houston, Mark Brown of Dallas and Gary Young of Central Point, Oregon. Graveside Services 10 a.m., Monday at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m., at the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church.
