Trial date set in Ferrante slaying

A judge on Monday scheduled an April 8 trial for a man who is accused of murdering a Tulsa teenager in a case of mistaken identity.
Edwin Jermaine Daniels is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Kayla Ferrante.
She was shot in the chest about 11:50 p.m. May 26, when she was in the passenger seat of a car in the 1500 block of South 122nd East Avenue, according to police.
At an arraignment Monday, a not guilty plea was entered on behalf of Daniels, 24.
Ferrante, a recent graduate of Memorial High School, was in a Cadillac with her boyfriend, Neikko Perez, near her home.
Police received information that Daniels thought the Cadillac that he shot at multiple times was occupied by two rival gang members, an arrest report states.
Prosecutors have said Daniels was mistaken in that belief.
Daniels also faces trial on a count of shooting with an intent to kill, linked to Perez’s presence in the vehicle that was the target of the gunfire.
Separate from the murder case, Daniels faces multiple counts of robbery, burglary, kidnapping and assault.
