Councilor Jack Henderson said Monday that he again will try to get councilors pay raises in the new year.
Henderson made the statement during the inauguration ceremony during which he was sworn in for a new two-year term.
Henderson has long maintained that the $18,000 annual salary for a councilor is too low.
Even though the charter indicates it's a part-time job, he said, it's full-time work.
Councilors soon will start discussing what charter amendments to put to city voters next fall.
Henderson has tried to pursue an amendment before but has never gotten enough support from his fellow councilors to put it on a public ballot.
Councilor Skip Steele clapped when Henderson made the announcement.
"There we go," Henderson said. "Now we just need four more, and we'll be in the money."
