OKMULGEE -- Second District Congressman Markwayne Mullin said Tuesday he has been notified he'll serve on the House transportation and natural resources committees.

Mullin disclosed the assignments during a public appearance Tuesday morning at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.

A Republican, Mullin will formally succeed Democrat Dan Boren on Jan. 3.

Tuesday's Okmulgee stop was part of a weeklong "listening tour" of the district's 26 counties.

About 40 people attended the Okmulgee event and asked questions and offered comments on school funding, federal regulations, government handouts and the American work ethic.
