Bixby-based Pearson Family Fund benefactor of Nobel Peace Prize Concert

Nobel Peace Prize Concert organizers have announced that the Bixby-based Thomas L. Pearson and The Pearson Family Members Fund is the global benefactor for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize Concert, to be held in Oslo, Norway, Dec. 11.
"This benefactor role represents the Pearson Family's inaugural participation with Nobel," Thomas L. Pearson said in a statement. "Importantly, it continues the legacy of our parents, Rev. Dr. Richard L. and Ramalee E. Pearson and underscores the Pearson Family's commitment to inspire and encourage the on-going discussion and resolution of global conflicts."
Actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Gerard Butler will host the 19th annual Nobel Peace Prize Concert that will honor the European Union "for having over six decades contributed to the advancement of peace and reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe."
The award is given annually to a person or organization whose work exemplifies a spirit of hope and leadership that will promote peace in the world.
"We are committed to helping recognize individuals and entities who embrace the ideals of Alfred Nobel, and who make a difference in the global society in which we live," the Pearson family said. "We fervently share Nobel's hope for a world that is at peace, free of global conflicts."
Previous recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize include Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama, Kofi Annan and Al Gore.
For the past 18 years, the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony has been followed the next day by the Nobel Peace Prize concert, a musical celebration that honors the laureate.
Performers at this year's concert include Seal, Jennifer Hudson, Karpe Diem, Laleh, Susanne Sundfor and others yet to be announced.
