Not sure I understand why the Tulsa World decided to make the release of a convicted drug dealer, Patricia Spottedcrow, the Nov. 30 lead story ("Spottedcrow released"). If the story dealt with a wrongful conviction, and the Tulsa World's efforts in overturning same, then I could understand the reason for the story having such a prominent place in your newspaper.
Instead, the story simply dealt with the early release of a convict. I don't believe this warrants front-page news status for your newspaper.
Editor's Note: In its award-winning "Women in Prison" series last year, the Tulsa World first wrote about the case of Patricia Spottedcrow. She was sentenced to 12 years in prison in October 2010 after selling $31 worth of marijuana to an informant. Last year, a Kingfisher County judge took four years off her sentence, and in April, the Pardon and Parole Board recommended she be paroled. Spottedcrow was released last week after serving about two years in prison.
