This is in reply to Nita Turner's letter ("Fur feud," Nov. 28): Yes, our forefathers wore fur. They had no choice. But with today's faux furs and synthetic fabrics, buying into the cruel fur industry is a needless cruelty. Animals caught in inhumane traps sometimes chew off their own paws trying to escape (usually females trying to get to their young).
Animals "ranch raised" fare no better. They spend their entire lives in small cages in the searing heat and bitter cold. Some go mad from the intense confinement. The day they do come out, they are either drowned, electrocuted or have their necks snapped.
And for what? So some cold-hearted person can wear the coat that God gave to them.
