According to a Nov. 30 Tulsa World story and to Jack Damrill, Oklahoma Turnpike Authority spokesman, the OTA agreed to spend $7.8 million to add cable barriers on the Cimarron Turnpike.
As many of us know who drive the Creek Turnpike, the OTA completed the installation of cable barriers on that turnpike within the past two or three years (I'm uncertain of the exact date when the cable installation was completed) and now the cable barriers are removed or being removed from U.S. 75 to Memorial Drive to add additional lanes.
As a Tulsa resident and Oklahoma taxpayer, I have two concerns: (1) As a frequent user of the Creek Turnpike, I have never seen enough traffic to justify the installation of additional lanes. (2) It is a shame the OTA would spend money to install cable barriers and then shortly thereafter remove the barriers.
It would be nice to have somebody from the OTA explain who does its long-range planning and if they still have a job.
