State drilling rig count holds steady at 188
The number of drilling rigs actively exploring for oil or natural gas in Oklahoma stands at 188 - the third week in a row at that level, Baker Hughes Inc. reported Friday.
The tally is down by eight from a year ago, when it was 196.
Nationwide, the number of active drilling units fell by 11 this week to 1,800, according to Houston-based Baker Hughes' website.
A year ago, the U.S. rig count was 1,987.
Of the rigs operating across the country this week, 1,382, or 77 percent of the total, were drilling for oil, while 417 were exploring for gas. One rig was listed as miscellaneous. A year ago, 58 percent of active rigs were exploring for oil.
Friday on the New York Mercantile Exchange, benchmark crude oil dropped 33 cents to finish at $85.93 per barrel, marking the fourth consecutive day of price declines. Oil fell 3.4 percent this week.
Natural gas fell 11.5 cents to end the week at $3.551 per 1,000 cubic feet.
