A Kansas man died Saturday morning after the pickup he was driving collided with a tractor truck in Kay County.
Matthew Ray McLaughlin, 21, of Winfield, Kan., was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2011 Ford F-150 collided with a 2005 Freightliner semitrailer, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
The pickup was heading west on Oklahoma 11 northwest of Ponca City just after 8 a.m. when it crossed the center line for an unknown reason, troopers said. The tractor truck moved to the right to try to avoid a collision, but the pickup struck the tractor truck, rolled 2 1/4 times and caught fire.
A 19-year-old passenger in the pickup was ejected as a result of the crash, troopers said. He was taken to a nearby hospital in good condition. The driver of the tractor truck was also taken to a nearby hospital and was treated and released, troopers said.
Troopers were unable to determine if the driver of the pickup was wearing a seat belt. The passenger was not, troopers said.
