Letter to the Editor: Fighting for fairness
BY Stanley Simpson, Tulsa

Kevin McQuigg’s Dec. 5 letter (“Impeachment”)
had his facts wrong. He
stated that the Democrats want tax
rates to increase for everyone. That
sounds like Fox News, which anyone
with a brain higher than a lizard would
recognize as propaganda. The truth is,
Democrats in Congress are trying to
prevent taxes from going up for the 98
percent middle class of Americans.
House Democrats have filed what’s
known as a discharge petition to force a
floor vote on middle income tax cuts. In
other words, they’re bypassing Speaker
John Boehner and Republican leadership
in order to take a bill (The Middle
Class Tax Cut Act, H.R. 15) out of committee,
without a committee vote, and
move it straight to the floor.
This bill would extend certain tax
cuts for 98 percent of Americans. If this
bill fails to pass it will be because of
heavy opposition from the Republicans
in Congress. The Democrats are fighting
for fairness just like President Franklin
D. Roosevelt did way back when.
