The football recruiting wars between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have been raised a notch this week.
On Wednesday, the Sooners received a verbal commitment from Houston-area defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo following the 6-3, 220-pounder’s earlier visit from OU coach Bob Stoops.
Last June, the Houston Alief Taylor High School player pledged to Oklahoma State. He becomes the first player to flip his commitment from OSU to Oklahoma since cornerback Demontre Hurst in 2009.
SoonerScoop.com was the first to report the news.
Okoronkwo is the Sooners’ 15th commitment and third defensive end in the 2013 recruiting class. He joins Southmoore’s D.J. Ward (6-3, 245) and Katy (Texas) High School’s Matt Dimon (6-2, 252).
The Sooners received a decommitment from Broken Arrow running back Devon Thomas on Monday.
